Day 6 was spent in the water. We had breakfast and went straight to the beach. More fish pictures and then we went to the pool where we stayed until lunch. After lunch we to the room to charge the water camera and then back to the beach for the rest of the afternoon. Later we picked up some souvenirs before returning to our room to pack and prepare for our last dinner in Mexico. Tomorrow we have to say goodbye :(
Day 5 was exhausting. I slept for 8 hours for the first time in I don't know how many weeks, or months. Nuria has been asleep for 10 hours so far.
So today, well yesterday, was by far the best weather we've had so far. When I woke up the sky was clear and it stayed thst way all day. We had our trip to the massive natural reserve so it couldn't have been a better day to have great weather.
The trip started with an almost two hour jeep ride to get deep into the reserve. There were two couples to a jeep so we let the other couple drive first. Bad idea. Nuria got carsick. Once we made it to the boat ride, the second part, she was a little bit better. We saw all kinds of birds, sea turtles, wild dolphins and the coral reef here. After that we went to eat and Nuria got worse and didn't eat anything. We got back in the boats and headed back to the jeeps.
My turn to drive now. Bad thing though because Nuria was sick and it had rained on the trail so now there were even more giant potholes and small lakes to drive through. Oh yeah, it was nighttime because two jeeps broke down on the way and we had to wait while they tried to fix them. Needless to say it was a long, dark, bumpy road on the way back.
We left the resort at 8 am and got back at 8:30 pm. It was a long day. Nuria went straight to bed and I watched some tv and ordered room service for dinner before crashing at 10:30.
And the fish from the other day wasn't a barracuda. We saw some and asked our guide and he said that they were needlefish and that they weren't dangerous. At that same moment a bunch of barracuda popped up and he said but "those are!"
This was a very short summary of the day. We did and saw so many things today that it would take some time to actually sit down and write it all out. It was truly an amazing experience to be out in the middle of the Caribbean sea on a tiny boat looking at giant sea turtles and wild dolphins!
Day four is now in the books. We had a pretty normal morning with breakfast and then the beach. At the beach, we spent the majority of our time taking underwater pics of the fish. When we were getting out of the water, Nuria crossed paths with a barracuda-like fish. Tomorrow we are going to ask our tour guide if it was a barracuda or not.
Later, we went to Playa del Carmen. It is like any beach in America, filled with shops and people trying to sell you souvenirs. We spent the afternoon/evening there going in all the stores. Fun Times! We then returned to the resort and visited the stores that are in the resort.
Next was dinner at a Brazilian restaurant and now bed. Tomorrow we leave at 8 for our trip. Another long day ahead of us.
I'm happy to say that I finally "slept in" today. After waking up at 5 am the first two days, and 4:30 am yesterday, I slept until 6:30 this morning!
Day three is complete and was our first excursion outside of the resort. We went to two villages, Tulum and Coba, which were very important Mayan villages.
First we went to Tulum where the sun was shining and it was beyond hot. Here we saw a bunch of Mayan ruins like pyramids and other temples. This place is unique because it is the Mayan ruins that are located on a cliff above a neach. The tour included some time on the beach but we couldn't go because they were repairing thr access to the beach.
We left there and stopped by a present day area where a couple Mayan families live. We saw their houses, how they grow food and went to swim in a cenote. Cenotes are underground bodies of freshwater that are more or less only found in the Yucatan peninsula.
We then went to Coba to have lunch and see more ruins. We had seen everything except for the grand finale, the tallest pyramid in the Yucatan, when we hit hit with the first rain of the day. And it was a nice, big tropical storm rain. Everyone got soaked, except us because we brought our jackets, but that didn't stop people from climbing up the pyramid. Thankfully,there were no incidents. I could picture someone falling and it being like a scene from Apocalypto when the bodies are thrown down the pyramid after being sacrificed. I tried to be brave and climbed up 5 or 6 steps to take some pics but that was it. We saw some pics from people who went all the way to the top and they were amazing though. Coba is located in the middle of the jungle so the pics showed the immense green jungle canopy.
Overall the trip was ok. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be but we saw some unique things and met some nice people. Now I'm looking forward to our next excursion on Thursday to massive natural reserve. Tomorrow will be a resting day at the hotel with maybe a short trip to a nearby beach.
Day two is almost complete. We spent the morning at the beach, more underwater fish pics, and got rained on briefly and then later some time in the pool where we got caught in the second and biggest rain of the day. After lunch we decided to go and take some pics. Nuria is happy now because I have more pics of her than the wild animals here, not including the fish. We got rained on again and decided to head back to our room to rest.
Tonight we have our first of four special dinners. We are going to one of the seafood restaurants so will get to.compare it to what we have in Spain. After dinner, we probably go for a short walk and then it's to the room because tomorrow we have our first excursion. We planned on doing one today but decided not to because of the rain.
Had the same convo about where we are from two more times. They really like our story.
We have ESPN so I'm watching Monday Night Football right now so I'm pretty happy. I watched a game last night too so I'm happy happy happy.
First day complete. We spent most of the day and the beach playing with our new toy, the waterproof camera. I believe waterproof cameras may be one of the best inventions ever. I was like a little kid in the water chasing after the fish.
We had a meeting explaining some of the trips we can o and we signed up for two.
The weather was amazing and we only got rained on for about 5 mins so we have nothing to complain about.
The resort is massive and we literally have a jungle about 150 feet away from our building. I saw several strange animals going through the fence to return to the jungle. There are also all kinds if birds that like to wake us up with their wild chirping in the morning.
It's very funny here because everyone speaks to us in English and we respond in Spanish. They are always surprised, then ask us where we are from. Then we have to explain that we live in Spain, but I'm from the U.S. And Nuria is from Spain and that we both speak English and Spanish. We have had this convo at least three times already.
So after celebrating four birthdays last week, our social.continues in full force this week. We have a family lunch tomorrow, another one on Friday and dinner with friends Friday night.
We will probably head to the beach this weekend since we are still unable to honeymoon. Hopefully all the paperwork will finally be completed next week and we will be able to officially get married on Friday and leave on Saturday.
Due to weather changes, we are no longer thinking of staying in Spain. Our plan now is the Riviera Maya in Mexico now that the area seems to be hurricane free. We shall see what happens
